Ecoacoustic Research & Artworks by Dipl.-Ing. Sam Erpelding
This sound-installation will showcase some results from the artist residency of the Luxembourgish sound engineer and sound artist Sam Erpelding at Casino Display – Forum d鈥檃rt contemporain, the 成人头条 and the C-Lab Taiwan Sound Lab in Taipei. His research is based on his doctoral thesis in the field of Ecoacoustics and Computer Music. It explores the sonic health of protected ecosystems in Austria and in Taiwan.
During his artist residency in Luxembourg, the sound artist worked on a series of immersive sonic artworks based on his research conducted in the Donau-Auen and Kalkalpen National Parks in Austria [to the dead poplar // to the old beech tree]. In the residency in Taipei, he developed new electroacoustic compositions based on his field-trips in the Yangmingshan National Park, the Yuantan Natural Eco-Park in Alishan and Shuangxi Tropical Arboretum near Kaohsiung [Whisperings of uncle butterfly and unheard spells of bi茫n f煤]. These field-trips and artworks were conducted in partnership with the Bat Conservation Society of Taipei, Academica Sinica Taiwan and the National Taiwan 成人头条versity of Arts.
Sam Epelding has been the In-成人头条versity artist resident in 2025, a program developed by the 成人头条-Espace Cultures in partnership with Casino Display – Forum d鈥檃rt contemporain, supported by PwC Foundation, under the aegis of Fondation de Luxembourg.
