Eric Tschirhart is full Professor of Physiology within the Department of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ, special Advisor to the Rector and coordinator of the Erasmus+ ‘UNIVERSEH European ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity’.

His research interests have been bronchial hyperreactivity delineation until the late 80s as a PhD student and endothelin receptor antagonist development in a US pharmaceutical research centre for cardiovascular and pulmonary targets until 1992.

As a group leader in the Centre de Recherche Public-Santé (Luxembourg), he then developed a research team to elucidate the control of superoxide anion secretion by calcium ion fluxes in human immune cells. Most developments implicated fluorescence measurement of biological and biochemical processes in live cellsin vitro, with a profound insight in the discovery of calcium-controlled transductional events leading to superoxide anions secretion. A complementary research activity linked to the investigation of oxidative stress consequences within the vascular wall was carried out.

Prof. Eric Tschirhart teaches physiology in Medical and Life Sciences programmes at the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ within the Bachelor en Sciences de la Vie – Fillière Biologie and at the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity of Louvain (medical and pharmacy school) in Belgium. Furthermore, he has supervised PhD candidates recurrently.

He is also the Study Programme Director of the .

He published in the fields of physiology, pharmacology, drug development, and space immunology.

After joining the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ late 2002 and contributing to the development of Life Sciences in Luxembourg, fluorescence-based studies became fully functional in autumn 2004. Aside, an interest was developed for the consequences of spaceflight on animal and human immunological system.

Since 2006, he has occupied various positions at the management of the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity, being initially special advisor to the President for research management, then Director of Administration; after having managed Academic Affairs as Vice-president for nearly 5 years, he is in charge of Technology Transfer and Fundraising for the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity, as Special Advisor to the President.

Since January 2019, he is special Advisor to the Rector – UNIVERSEH | European ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity – ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity of the Greater Region and since October 2022: Expert for Evaluation of Higher Education Institutes, High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (Hcéres, France).

Eric Tschirhart holds a PhD in Pharmacology and an MBA.
