Pascale Engel de Abreu is an Associate Professor in Psychology at the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ, where she heads the Cognitive and Socio-Emotional Development Research Group and the Child and Baby Lab. Her academic background includes master’s degrees in Developmental Psychology from ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversité Louis Pasteur (France) and the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity of Durham (UK), a PhD in Psychology from the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity of York (UK), and postdoctoral research at the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity of Oxford (UK), Princeton ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity (US), York ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity (Canada), and the Federal ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity of Bahia (Brazil). Additionally, she is a trained child psychologist with extensive practical experience working with disadvantaged children in Luxembourg, France, Niger, Bolivia, and Brazil.

Pascale’s research focuses on cognitive processes driving typical and atypical development and how environmental factors impact child development, particularly in multilingual settings and early adversity. Her work investigates cognitive and environmental factors affecting mental health and well-being, employing a range of methodologies including longitudinal, intervention, individual difference, experimental, and survey designs.

Pascale has a strong public engagement profile, notably with language-minority children and those experiencing early adversity. She founded LUMI, a research spin-off aimed at translating research innovations into practice and policy to improve outcomes for disadvantaged children.
