Abstract

In his fifth lecture on Central Banking Law, Professor Gortsos will develop on the legal framework – both primary and secondary EU law – governing the monetary policy within the Eurosystem.

He will also briefly discuss the Emergency Liquidity Assistance Mechanism in the Euro system, with an emphasis on the role of national central banks and the ECB therein.

³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ the speaker

Christos Gortsos is Professor of Public Economic Law at the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity of Athens. Other positions include: Visiting Professor at the Europa Institut of the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity of Zürich and the Europa Institut of the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity of Saarland; President of the Academic Board of the European Banking Institute (EBI); Member of the Board of Appeal of the European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs); Member of the European Parliament’s and of the European Court of Auditors’ expert groups on banking resolution; and member and academic coordinator of the Committee on International Monetary Law of the International Law Association (MOCOMILA). In 2017, he was Fernand Braudel Senior Fellow at the Law Department of the European ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity Institute and in 2018 Academic Visitor at St Antony’s College (Oxford ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõversity). His main fields of teaching, writing and research are international, EU and public financial law, central banking law, financial regulation and institutional economics.
