On 20 June 2026, the C²DH’s CD-HIST research team invited everyone to step back in time and enter the fascinating world of CD-ROM in an interactive and playful way.
The Forum Z event, “CD-ROM. Click & Play,” marked the official closure of the research project. It was the grand finale of a dedicated event series, which previously included:
- An online pre-workshop « Technostalgia, Obsolescence, and Media Practices&²Ô²ú²õ±è;»
- The international conference “Technostalgia: Afterlives of 80s-90s’ Digital Technologies”
- The interactive exhibition “CD-ROM. One click, one story”
This exhibition, hosted at the Rotondes, sat at the very heart of the Forum Z event. Under the guidance of passionate researchers, participants (re)discovered the technologies that shaped a generation through a three-room interactive experience. Visitors got hands-on by trying out original discs on vintage computers, exploring the early days of multimedia, and learning how this iconic format became a vital part of digital history.
Following the immersive experience, technostalgia fans tested their knowledge during a lively trivia quiz and celebrated the project’s conclusion with a custom, CD-ROM-shaped cake.
